STANLEY SCHOENBAUM

Born in Richmond, Virginia (1925), Mr. Schoenbaum has practiced law in San Antonio since 1958, specializing in federal tax matters and estate planning. He is a founding shareholder of SC&S. He is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law and in Tax Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Mr. Schoenbaum earned a B.A. from the University of Richmond (1947), an LL.B. from the University of Virginia (1949) and an LL.M. (in Taxation) from New York University School of Law (1950). From 1953 to 1958 he served as a trial attorney in the Atlanta Regional Office of the IRS Chief Counsel and as a special attorney in the Legislation and Regulations Division of the IRS National Office. He was an adjunct professor in estate, gift and income taxation at St. Mary's University School of Law for over fifteen years, and has been a frequent lecturer on taxation and estate planning. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas (and past chairman of its Tax Section). He is admitted to the practice of law in Texas and before the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. Supreme Court. His practice includes Tax Counseling, Tax Controversies, Estate Planning and Administration, and Business and Investment Planning. His civic activities include serving as a Trustee of the Baptist Health Services Foundation and the University of Texas at San Antonio Development Board. He is named in the 2003-2004 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in both Tax and Trusts and Estates. In 2004, he was designated by Texas Monthly as a Texas Super Lawyer in Tax. Born in Eveleth, Minnesota (1940), Jim is a founding shareholder of SC&S. He earned a B.A. from Colorado College (1963) and an LL.B. from the University of Texas School of Law (1967) before working as a trial attorney for the Internal Revenue Service. He is admitted to the practice of law in Texas and before the U.S. Tax Court. His practice includes Tax Counseling, Tax Controversies, Litigation Support, Estate Planning and Administration, and Business and Investment Planning. He is named in the 2003-2004 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in Tax. In 2003, Jim was designated by Texas Monthly as a Texas Super Lawyer in Tax. WILLIAM SCANLAN JR.

Born in Brownsville, Texas (1942), Bill is a founding shareholder of SC&S. He is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Bill earned a B.A. from the University of Virginia (1962), an LL.B. from the University of Texas School of Law (1966) and an LL.M. (in Taxation) from George Washington University School of Law (1971). Bill served as a Captain in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1970 with one year of service in Vietnam. His decorations include the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star. He was an adjunct professor of estate and gift taxation at St. Mary's University School of Law for over twenty years, and is the author of numerous articles and a frequent lecturer on taxation, estate planning and trust and estate administration issues at programs such as the Wills & Probate Institute at the Center for American and International Law, the Annual American Institute on Federal Taxation, the University of Texas Annual Taxation Conference, the San Antonio Young Lawyer's Docket Call in Probate Court, and State Bar of Texas seminars. He served for five years as the Taxation Editor and for three years as the General Editor of the Real Estate, Trust and Probate Newsletter published by the State Bar of Texas. He is also a Fellow and Regent of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and Editor of ACTEC Notes. He is admitted to the practice of law in Texas and before the U.S. Tax Court. Born in Selma, Alabama (1952), Banks is a SC&S shareholder. He is Board Certified in Commercial Real Estate Law and in Farm and Ranch Real Estate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Banks earned a B.A. with high honors from the University of Texas (1973), where he was selected a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He then earned a J.D. from the University of Texas Law School (1976). He is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, the San Antonio Bar Association, and the College of the State Bar of Texas. He is admitted to the practice of law in Texas and before the U.S. District Court (Western District of Texas). DARIN N. DIGBY
Born in Austin, Texas (1961), Darin is a SC&S shareholder. He is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law and in Tax Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Darin earned a B.B.A. with highest honors from the University of Texas (1984) and a J.D. with high honors from the University of Texas School of Law (1987), where he became a member of the Order of the Coif. Darin was an adjunct professor in estate and gift taxation at St. Mary's University School of Law for three years, and is the author of numerous articles and a frequent lecturer on taxation, estate planning and trust and estate administration issues at programs such as the Short Course in Estate Planning at the Center for American and International Law, the University of Texas Intermediate Estate Planning Program, Guardianship and Elder Law Course, the San Antonio Young Lawyer's Docket Call in Probate Court, and State Bar of Texas seminars. Born in San Antonio, Texas (1948), Patty is a SC&S shareholder and is certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation (as recognized by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization). She earned a B.A. in mathematics from Trinity University (1975) and a J.D. with high honors from St. Mary's University School of Law (1990). She served as an adjunct professor at St. Mary's University School of Law since 1998, and she is a frequent author and lecturer on elder law, estate planning, trust and estate administration issues, and legal ethics issues at programs, such as the San Antonio Estate Planner's Docket Call in Probate Court, the University of Texas Intermediate Estate Planning, Guardianship and Elder Law Course and State Bar of Texas Elder Law Seminars. She is a member of the San Antonio Bar Association, Texas Bar Association, American Bar Association, College of the State Bar of Texas and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys where she is Past President of the State Chapter. She is also a member of the Department of Human Services Long Term Care Services Advisory Council, Region 8 (Central Texas) and was a consultant and faculty member of the South, West & Panhandle Consortium Geriatric Education Centers Grant education project at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio 2002-2003. Born in Haskell, Texas (1970), Michael is an Associate at Texas Tech University School of Law (Lubbock, Texas) and Of Counsel to SC&S. He is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He earned a B.A. (1991) and a M.A. (1993) from Texas A&M University, and a J.D. with honors from New York University School of Law (1996). In 2006, he was named the Phi Alpha Delta Outstanding Professor of the Year, and in 2007 he was awarded the Texas Tech University Alumni Association New Faculty Award.
