Born in Richmond, Virginia (1925), Mr. Schoenbaum has practiced law in San Antonio since 1958, specializing in federal tax matters and estate planning. He is a founding shareholder of Schoenbaum, Curphy & Scanlan, P.C.

From 1953 to 1958 he served as a trial attorney in the Atlanta Regional Office of the IRS Chief Counsel and as a special attorney in the Legislation and Regulations Division of the IRS National Office. He was an adjunct professor in estate, gift and income taxation at St. Mary's University School of Law for over fifteen years, and has been a frequent lecturer on taxation and estate planning. In 1968, he served as chairman of the Tax Section of the State Bar of Texas and serves on the University of Texas at San Antonio Development Board. Since 1984, he has been named in The Best Lawyers. He is A-V rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
